Kelly Brush Rides: 2012 – Present

Posy is a 15 year old powerhouse that has been a superstar at the Kelly Brush Ride, riding 50 miles each year since she was 12 with her family and Team Sugarbush! She told us an incredible story about some handcyclists that inspired her to push through her own fatigue. An incredible young woman!

What makes the Kelly Brush Ride special to you? It was a challenge for me, as the first time I did it I was 12 years old. In the following 2 years, I really enjoyed seeing how much easier it was for me. Well, not exactly easier, but less-challenging. The way I felt after the first time I did it with my mom was just really amazing. And that feeling pushed me to ride it the next 2 years. It’s also a lot of fun because our family is so active.

Why do you ride? I ride the Kelly Brush Ride to support the KBF. I think it’s really important to support causes like that, and also people who are a part of our community. I love biking in general because it’s a nice way to get some exercise in. You can talk while you do it, which makes it a lot more fun and bearable. It’s also a great way to sight-see. The ride has such beautiful scenery.

Any cool stories from the Kelly Brush Ride? The first time I did it, the feeling of accomplishment was incredible. Especially on that day, where we found ourselves riding in really strong wind. That final stretch was really hard for me. There was this hill that we were riding up, and I had to stop because I was so tired. After my mom comforted me and I had some water and maybe a bite or two of Twix, I was able to get back on my bike and continue up the hill. As we rode, some handcyclists passed us. Watching them push themselves up the hill with their arms, I realized that they had it much harder than I did. And that motivated me to keep going.
