We met Alicia last year at the Kelly Brush Ride for the first time and received her grant application a month later. She was already an accomplished international handcyclists racing on the Paracycling Road World Cup tour. While achieving success on the road circuit, she applied for an offroad handcycle so she could ride recreationally and safely with her daughter on dirt roads and trails, saying: “I long to experience cycling with her, and, at least for now, she needs my company to have a positive and fulfilling experience with the sport!

She reached out recently to apologize that she can’t make it to the 10th Annual Kelly Brush Century Ride, but with good reason:

I’m really sorry to have to miss the Kelly Brush Century Ride this year! But the date conflicts with the final UCI Paracycling Road World Cup race of the season, in Pietermartzburg, South Africa, where I will be competing as a handcyclist with Team USA. I am currently in second position for the overall World Cup title in my category (H3) with 3 golds, 2 bronze, and 1 6th place finish in the first 3 World Cup races this year. I also won 2 silver medals at the UCI Road World Championships in Nottwil, Switzerland last month. It’s been a busy season! When I return from South Africa, I hope to have my new off-road handcycle, funded in part by the Kelly Brush Foundation! I’m really looking forward to getting off the road, into the woods, and enjoying Vermont this fall in a brand new way! Thanks Kelly Brush, and have a great Ride this year!

Good luck Alicia!
