FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Kelly Brush Foundation Awards 67 Active Fund Grants in Spring 2018

BURLINGTON, VT (May 14, 2018) – The Kelly Brush Foundation is proud to announce the newest Active Fund grant class. The Kelly Brush Foundation awarded $165,450 to 67 remarkable and motivated people with spinal cord injuries this spring. The Active Fund provides adaptive sports equipment grants to empower people with spinal cord injuries to lead independent active lifestyles.

The Kelly Brush Foundation’s spring 2018 grant recipients come from 28 different states and range in age from 14 to 69. Handcycles remain the most commonly requested piece of equipment, followed by basketball chairs, monoskis, rugby chairs, and hockey sleds. This grant cycle also included an equestrian carriage, archery bow, nordic sit-ski, power soccer chair, and an air rifle.

“We are so excited to welcome 67 new members to the Kelly Brush community,” said Executive Director Zeke Davisson. “These are athletes, weekend warriors, and family members that just want to be active on their own terms. Thanks to our incredible donors, sponsors, and partners we were able to make significant awards to help make that happen. We will continue to grow the Active Fund until everyone with a spinal cord injury has the support they need to be active.”

The Active Fund consists of a spring and a fall grant cycle, with two opportunities per year for people to apply for adaptive sports equipment funding. The next opportunity to apply will be the fall 2018 Active Fund grant cycle, which will open in June.
