The KBF team LOVES winter.  We can’t get enough snowy mornings, ski outings, fresh tracks, and of course apres with friends and family. Since not everyone shares our enthusiasm, here’s a list of resources to help adaptive athletes and their squads keep moving during the winter months.  This is just a small peek into the many opportunities and organizations offering adaptive activities all winter long—this map  will help you find resources closer to home.

Don’t let shorter days and colder temperatures keep you from living your best active life!

WINTER ADAPTIVE OUTDOOR RECREATION

Vermont Adaptive
Vermont Adaptive offers a variety of options to play in the snow with programs throughout the state including Alpine and Cross Country Skiing.

Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports
Every weekend from January through early march a group of trained PCAS volunteers and ski instructors offer adaptive ski lessons at Camelback Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains.

National Ability Center
Park City is a winter playground and the NAC offers lots of opportunities to get out and enjoy it, including Adaptive Nordic Skiing.   After a lesson with NAC staff, Nordic sit skis are available to rent for independent adventures with friends and family on Park City’s Winter Trails.

WINTER ADAPTIVE INDOOR RECREATION

Coastal Adaptive Sports
In addition to sponsoring the Coastal Chairmen, a member of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s Carolina Conference, South Carolina’s Coastal Adaptive Sports hosts a weekly wheelchair basketball pick-up game!  With loaner chairs available, these games are free and open to anyone, including athletes with full mobility.

Wisconsin Adaptive Sports Association
Among the many indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities that WASA offers their community is Wheelchair Bowling—held weekly on Tuesday nights.  Open to any bowlers, with adaptive equipment available to borrow if necessary.

Adaptive Yoga Live
Adaptive yoga classes available for free from your home or anywhere you happen to be!

Oregon Adaptive Sports
In addition to outdoor recreation programs, this Central-Oregon organization offers adaptive rock climbing at indoor climbing gyms throughout the year.

Indy Steel Sled Hockey
This Indianapolis-based organization opens its Sled Hockey practice once a month to guests so they can try equipment, and get coaching guidance on skating, stick handling, and shooting.
