Every year the KBF goes to The Hartford Ski Spectacular, one of the biggest events in adaptive sports! As part of our new Path2ctive Scholarships program, we were delighted to bring along two Active Fund grant recipients. Logan and Ryan were given the opportunity to ski with us in the excellent snow at Breckenridge in Colorado. Here’s what they had to say about the experience:

Logan

“Huge thank you to the Kelly Brush Foundation for the scholarship to be able to attend the Hartford Ski Spectacular! It was an unforgettable and life-changing experience for me. Being able to get back on the mountain was a dream of mine and this scholarship allowed me to do so. Being in the mountains again helped me reignite my love for snow sports and helped me develop a new passion in a chair! It was important to me to go as I realized how the return to the mountain was much easier than expected. With the aid of a sit-ski and riggers, I was able to return to free skiing and being on my own in the mountain, carving just like a standup skier. It was also an eye-opening experience to be surrounded by other people from all walks of life and all different disabilities to see just how accommodating and inclusive an event and sport could be. I was able to make valuable connections with people in adaptive sports that want the best for everyone. I look forward to spending my coming winters monoskiing in the mountains thanks to you guys!”

Ryan

“Ski Spec was something that I have heard about for years and this year I was lucky enough to check it out for the first time thanks to a Path2Active Scholarship from the Kelly Brush Foundation. From the moment I checked in and seeing all the volunteers, participants, instructors, and sponsors it felt like it was going to be an awesome week. The organization (Move United) and sheer size of the event for adaptive winter sports was unlike anything I have ever seen before. I learned so much from other mono skiers and instructors and met new lifelong friends. I realized how supportive the adaptive community is and how organizations can give back and have such a substantial impact on our lives. The high for me was definitely being able to ski my very own Hydra monoski from Dynaccess thanks to the Kelly Brush Foundation and High Fives! It was my first monoski and after getting it measured and dialed in I felt very good going down the slopes! It was also great meeting other KBF grant recipients from the event and hearing their stories, which inspired me to work harder and continue to stay active!”
