With the support of our partner organizations, we were able to grant 133 individuals over $400,000 in equipment grants and 16 Try It First grants!

In the words of grantee Thomas: “WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to the 100 first-time KBF grant recipients! This cycle we’re helping nearly 70 individuals get their first-ever piece of adaptive sports equipment! Thank you to all of the sports teams and adaptive sports organizations that helped connect the majority of these new folks to us, as well as the various rehab hospitals that are helping spread the word so thoroughly.

The most granted equipment this cycle was basketball chairs, followed closely by both offroad and road handcycles. Super exciting to see folks getting out there with sport chair grants to play pickleball, lacrosse, softball, and football.

By supporting folks at any stage of life and injury, our youngest grantee in this cycle is 4 years old and the oldest is nearly 70. Over 20 applicants are within the first year of their injury while a dozen have lived with their SCI for over 30 years!

We are stoked to see the new equipment in action in 35 states across the country, most of which are headed to California, Texas, Georgia, and Florida.

For grantee Michael, “I am super excited to finally be able to explore an entirely different world of being a wheelchair user. A side where, as a person with a disability, I get to show others with similar circumstances as well as able bodied individuals that we are very much handi-CAPABLE!
